Recreation in the Gila National Forest

Find solitude and inner tranquility when you explore over 550,000 acres in the Gila Wilderness, the first designated wilderness in the U.S.  Wildwood Hot Springs and Retreat is nestled in the heart of the Gila National Forest under tall shade trees along the soothing waters of the Gila River, one of the last free flowing rivers in the Southwest.

The Gila Wilderness is buffered on all sides by the Gila National Forest (3.3 million acres) and interconnected with the Aldo Leopold Wilderness, Blue Range Wilderness and the Apache National Forest.  With elevation ranges from 4,000 to 11,000 feet, the mountains, mesas, canyons, rivers and streams make this a major center for outdoor recreation.
